Special Town Board Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Van Buren, held at the Van Buren Town Hall, 7575 Van Buren Road, Baldwinsville, New York on August 26, 2008 at 7:30 pm.

Mr. Sykes said the purpose of this meeting is to discuss taking a portion of the town’s sales tax money for road improvements.
Mr. Dudzinski said this is a great way to fund road projects in the town.
Mr. Sykes said there is no other way to fund these projects. He said the town started at $250,000.00, but with the rise in prices we have taken $300,000.00 a last year and this may not be enough to complete all the projects for next year.
Mr. Dudzinski asked how much the town taking this money had increased the County tax rate.
Mr. Sykes said it was minimal.
Ms. Dickman asked if the town can get a list of what other towns take in sales tax money versus how much is available to them.
Mr. Sykes said yes, he will request a list.
Ms. Sabin asked if the town should take more money and put some in reserves to pay for vehicles.
Mr. Sykes said the town may want to look at that for next year. He said as part of the budge process department heads have been asked to complete an equipment replacement schedule. He said state aid will no doubt be cut further next year as well. He said the town will be in a better position next year to determine if we should take more of the money and if so, where it should be allocated. He said the money can only be used to fund projects or equipment in the part town part of the budget.
224-08-034 MOTION BY Mr. Dudzinski, seconded by Mr. Johnson, to approve, pursuant to New York State Tax Law, Article 29, Section 1262, the Town of Van Buren hereby elects to be paid directly a portion of its sales tax revenues, said election to be in the amount of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000.00).
