REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:  The park opens at 7:30am. on registration days, and numbers will be handed out.  Enter the park at the main entrance on Canton Street, and as you proceed along the park drive, you'll see someone standing at the bottom of the road leading up to the office.  He/she will provide you with a number and registration forms.  After you come pick up a number, you don't have to stay at the park - go back home, go to breakfast, etc.  Come back at 8:30am., (when the office opens) and proceed up to the Parks and Recreation Office.  We will begin calling out numbers and taking registrations there. Please make certain you are present when your number is called.  If you are not, you will need to get a new number when you arrive and move to the END OF THE LINE!

Once the office opens at 8:30, you may obtain a number right up at the Parks and Recreation Office, where registration takes place.

Registration for Sessions 1 & 2 is held separately (earlier in the season) from that of Sessions 3 & 4.  At registration, you may only sign your child up for one session or the other - not both!  However, if your child is registered in session one (or three), you may check with the park office the day before the session ends to see if there is room in the following session in the particular class you are interested in.

Registration for Sessions 1 or 2                                  Registration for Sessions 3 or 4
Van Buren Residents:  Begins Monday, June 16         Van Buren Residents:  Begins Monday, July 21
Non-residents:  Begins Tuesday, June 17                    Non-residents:  Begins Tuesday, July 22

Need to register someone else's children (how very nice of you!)?  That's no problem - just please note that the MAXIMUM number of children an individual may register that are not his/her own is FOUR (4)!  We'll provide you with a permission form to take back to the child's parent to sign, and he/she just needs to get it back to use before his/her child's lesson begins.

**  Due to the overwhelming popularity of the program, we are forced to be very strict with residency.  Residency is determined by the legal address of the child taking the lessons - not necessarily that of the individual registering the child, or caring for the child over the summer.  Children whose parents own property in the Town of Van Buren will also be granted residency status.  Please bring a copy of the tax record with you to registration as proof.  Non-resident children may be registered ONLY on non-resident registration days.  Please do not ask us to make exceptions!

Anyone registering as a Town of Van Buren resident must have their payment in the form of a check, with their address printed on it, or if paying in cash, a driver's license or official piece of mail (ie., a telephone bill) showing their address.

REFUNDS:  (minus a $2.00 administrative fee for one cancellation, $4.00 for two or more) for swim lessons will be given up until the THIRD CLASS of a particular session HAS BEGUN, regardless of whether the child attends the first two!  If your child is not willing to stay in the program at the end of the second class, please stop by our office before you return home that day and request a refund!  Once the third class has STARTED, there will be NO refunds given for any reason.  Lessons are run on a self-sustaining basis; enough children must register to cover the costs of running a class or it will be cancelled.  If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, then class fees will be fully refunded.  This department reserves the right to cancel or combine classes if necessary.

SWIM LESSON LEVELS

The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of ALL of the skills from the preceding level.  Please read the descriptions carefully; even if your child passed a particular level last season, he/she may have to repeat that level to get the new skills now added in each.  Whereas in the past swim instructors could allow a child to remain in a level he/she was "close" to qualifying for (and simply work to bring him/her "up to speed"), with the new levels that will no longer be possible.  Given the intensity of the new levels, students MUST master ALL skills of each level to the swim instructor's satisfaction before moving on to the next!
