Summer Playground Program

Sign-ups for the Summer Playground Program will begin May 1st.


WHO:  Children and youth, ages 6-14  (5 yr. olds also accepted, but ONLY if they have completed kindergarten!)
WHAT:  Six weeks of organized FUN!      
WHEN:  Mondays through Fridays, July 7 to August 15, 2008
TIME:       9:00am.-2:00pm.     
WHERE:  Van Buren Elementary & Reynolds Elementary schools -- your choice of site!    VAN BUREN PLAYGROUND NOW FULL!!!!!
             
             
The Summer Playground Program offers a variety of daily activities including games, arts & crafts, music, sports, special events, field trips and more!  Participation is run on a come-and-go-as-you-please basis, meaning children may attend as frequently or as seldom as they wish.  Participants should pack a bag lunch and a drink each day.  All registrations must take place by mail or in-person at the Parks and Recreation Office prior to participation at the playground sites.  No registration is taken by telephone, nor can spots be "held".

MATERIALS & SUPPLIES FEE:  

Town of Van Buren Residents --  $25.00 for the first child registered, $20.00 for the second child, $15.00 for each child thereafter.
Non-residents --  $40.00 per child registered.

This fee is not "per week" -- it covers the FULL six-week program!  However, we do NOT pro-rate the fee based on how often your child can attend.

RESIDENCY is determined by where the child legally resides, not where he or she may be staying for the summer.  Children whose parents own property in the Town of Van Buren will also be granted residency status (proof required).

The SUMMER PROGRAM BROCHURE is distributed to the Baldwinsville Schools, the banks & post offices in the Baldwinsville area, the Baldwinsville Library, and also found at the Parks and Recreation Office in the beginning of May each year.

There will be a maximum of 175 participants registered at each site, so please REGISTER EARLY!

SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM FIELD TRIPS

Note:  Children must be registered for the Summer Playground Program in order to attend any of the field trips!

There are five field trips scheduled each summer, with bus transportation provided.  ATTENDANCE IS OPTIONAL - Field trip fees are NOT included in the "Materials and Supplies" fee for the Summer Playground Program.  Field trip fees are extra, and must be paid at time of trip registration.  PLAYGROUNDS ARE CLOSED ON FIELD TRIP DAYS TO THOSE WHO DO NOT ATTEND THE TRIPS!  All staff go to field trip sites.

Action Sports and Skate Center  --  Thursday, July 17
A trip to the Sports and Skate Center for three hours of roller skating.  Cost includes skate rental, one slice of pizza and one cup of soda.  If children wish to eat or drink more, please bring extra money.  We will be there from 10:00am.-1:00pm.

COST PER CHILD:   $11.50                     Registration deadline:  Mon., July 14              

FUN JUNCTION  (Shoppingtown Mall)  -- Thursday, July 24
For this exciting trip, FUN JUNCTION will allow us unlimited laser tag!  If you would like to play the arcade games, please bring extra money.  We’ll be there from 9:45 to 11:45am.  Lunch will be eaten back at the playground.  Bring a bag lunch as usual.  

COST PER CHILD:   $10.50                     Registration deadline:  Mon., July 21      

VAN BUREN PARK --  Thursday, July 31    **RAINDATE: Friday, August 1
A trip to Van Buren Park for three hours of outdoor activities, including one and a half hours of swimming time at the pool.  Bring a bag lunch, drink, swimsuit, and a towel.

COST PER CHILD:   $7.00                     Registration deadline:  Mon., July 28

SANDY ISLAND BEACH, LAKE ONTARIO -- Thursday, August 7     ** RAINDATE:  Friday, Aug. 8
Enjoy a day at Sandy Island Beach, Lake Ontario building sand castles, playing volleyball,
picnicing and swimming!  Bring a bag lunch with a drink, swimsuit, beach towel and
sunscreen!

COST PER CHILD:   $10.00                     Registration deadline:  Mon.,  August 4

THUNDERBIRD LANES -- Wednesday, August 13 for Van Buren / Thursday, August 14 for Reynolds
Join us at Thunderbird Lanes in Seneca Knolls for some bowling!  Price per child includes
three games and shoe rental.  (Lunch will be eaten back at the playground.  Bring a bag lunch
as usual).

COST PER CHILD:   $9.00              Registration deadline:  Mon.,  Aug. 11

Field trips take place on Thursdays, except where otherwise noted, or a raindate is needed.  Field trip fees also include cost of bus transportation.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST RIDE THE BUS TO AND FROM THE FIELD TRIP SITES!  This is for your child's safety, and we will make absolutely NO exceptions!

Registration for the field trips will take place at the Parks and Recreation Office, NOT at playground program sites.

** Please Note:  Registrations for the field trips will be accepted only until the trip fills, or by 4:00pm. the Monday prior to each field trip date - whichever comes first!  Due to the increasing number of participants, as well as budgetary constraints, registration for each field trip will be limited to 90 participants per playground site!  FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.

Field Trip Refund Policy:  Refunds for the field trips are only given if the cancellation is received by this office prior to the registration deadline for the particular trip.  A $2.00 administrative fee will be subtracted for one cancellation, $4.00 for two or more.

WE DO NOT MAKE TRIP PARTICIPANT SUBSTITUTIONS! (i.e., "My son can not attend, but can his cousin / friend go in his place?")  With 180 participants to keep track of for each trip, this policy will limit the chance of confusion.  Your child's safety comes FIRST!   We apologize for any inconveninece this may cause.              

IN CASE OF RAIN:  Certain field trips may have the day immediately following scheduled as a raindate.  Raindates (if applicable) are noted on the Field Trip Registration Form.  In case of inclement weather (i.e., thunderstorms) the morning of a trip, a decision will be made at 8:30am. when the office opens as to whether to postpone to the raindate.  If your child was NOT registered for a trip, and the weather is questionable the day a trip was scheduled, then you are urged to contact the Parks & Recreation office to ascertain whether a postponement was decided upon.  We do NOT make refunds due to weather cancellations!  Please do NOT register your child for a field trip if he/she would not be able to attend on the raindate!
