The Town of Van Buren now issues multi-year dog licenses. You can renew your dog's license for one, two or three years beginning May 1, 2006. If you get a three year rabies shot for your dog you can get a three year dog license and not worry about renewing until the rabies shot booster is needed again (you will still get a renewal notice form NYS). NYS will not allow any refunds for any reason for dog licenses.
All dogs age 4 months and older are required by New York State to be licensed.
Authority to issue dog licenses and all licensing requirements is prescribed in Article 7 of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.
To obtain a new dog license:
You may either license through the mail or in person. You can download the form from NYS Agriculture & Markets by clicking HERE.
You MUST show a current rabies certificate to obtain the license. The office will keep the certificate on file and will only require another when it expires.
Licensing Fees:
$7.00 for spayed or neutered dogs (Spayed/Neutered certificate REQUIRED)
$18.50 for unspayed or unneutered dogs
The license is valid for one to three years (your choice) from the date of purchase. NYS will not issue any refunds for any reason once a dog license has been paid.
You will receive a paper license and tag for the dog when you originally get your license. If you need a replacement tag you can request one in person or through the mail. The cost is $3.00/tag
